Calming Jar
My kids love anything that is calming. Ya’ girl is learning so much as a parent! I have learned that various sensory items help my boys calm down (especially after a long day). It also helps this mama calm down too. I love soothing ocean sounds, prayer, reading a book, essential oil diffusers, and these calming sensory glitter jars. It helps me to refocus and keep calm (even if chaos is happening all around me). My kids love using calming jars, too (yes, even the teenagers). This is a sensory activity your family will love! Here is how we made these. Please don’t knock it until you try it. I promise!
Materials Needed
Here is what you need to start: one eight-ounce glass jar. I don’t know why, but I prefer glass. I feel like it looks less cloudy when looking at the glitter. Next, you will need clear glue like these. After that; you will need a few pinches of glitter. I found this fantastic glitter kit with multiple glitter colors and sizes. Grab any food coloring that you have on hand. Lastly, you will need some warm water.
How-To
First, fill your jar with about 1 inch of clear glue. Then you will pour in whatever combination of glitter that you would like. After that, add the warm water until there’s about an inch of space left at the top. Next, put in about two drops of your favorite color food coloring. After that, top the mixture off with a small amount of clear glue. Then shake it (but don’t break it. LOL!).
My boys and I really enjoy this sensory activity with these calming jars. Each of my children has a jar in their room that they made. When times are challenging and we are having a hard time with emotions we all get out our calming jars to help us. I also have the boys use their feelings chart too! I have to write another post about that one. I hope you enjoyed making these jars with us.
What do you do to help keep your kids calm after a rough day?
