This Summer has been challenging. I was pretty bummed when COVID-19 occurred because we pretty much had to cancel all of our Summer vacation plans. Then one day I was sitting at home with the kids and a light bulb went off. Why don’t we just take a road trip to a few of our favorite places right here in Texas! There is nothing better than a good old fashioned staycation. Here are my top 5 recommendations on places to staycation in Texas this Summer.
Farmhouse in Carmine, TX -Let me be honest Round Top, Texas is my FAVORITE place to visit. Round Top has a population of 90 and is 8 miles from Carmine with population of 230. I visit Round Top at least 2-3 times per year. I am a Southern Girl and I love the country. I really believe it’s the quiet outdoors, crisp air, home cooked food, and fresh baked pies that makes my heart melt when I come to this city. This Air BNB in Carmine, TX is my favorite place to stay. It sits on several acres of land and the owners have a heart of gold. Every time we arrive she has a fresh baked pie from Royer’s Cafe waiting on us. Since I mentioned Royer’s Cafe, let me just say their home cooked meals and fresh baked pies are worth the visit there alone. Talk about down home southern comfort food! If you are looking for other eating areas close, there are many gourmet restaurants including Feed & Firewater (Eclectic), Manditos’s (Tex-Mex), LuLu’s (Italian) and Teague’s Tavern (Sports’s Bar). The owner, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs, have a beautiful country chic Air BNB with antique decor scattered throughout this 4 bedroom home and the scene from the porch each night is breath taking. I remember stories of Mrs. Gibbs telling us about the fireflies she caught from up North and at night when on the porch you can see them just light up. It’s just plain beautiful! Also, if you are in Round Top during September the antique show is amazing and you can find a lot of good antique pieces and fun shopping. Whatever you decide…you have to visit this Air BNB!
Sausalito Shores in Galveston, TX- My kids love sunny beaches, salty air, sand, and water! Every year my son has made it up in his mind that he is going to the beach for Summer. Usually we travel to Destin annually but this year we strongly considering going to Galveston, TX. If we do, THIS is where we will stay. This BEAUTIFUL beach house is right near the water and you can’t ask for better than that. The whole family can fit comfortably while playing games, sleeping, and making TONS of fun memories. Your kids won’t even won’t even notice that they are still in Texas. During the day you can visit the beach, go fishing, and build sand castles. In the evening, you can visit some of the delicious seafood restaurants. Also, Moody Gardens is in Galveston and they usually have lots of fun stuff to do and water play for the kids. If you don’t feel comfortable venturing out of the beach house due to COVID-19 you can still enjoy your time near the water and play family games. I am sure it beats staying home all day. Anytime my family gets a change in scenery it makes everyone happy. Be sure to save this house on your list for places to book this Summer. To book this beautiful beach house send an email to torrinproperties@gmail.com and tell them Sherrell sent you.
The Post Oak Hotel in Uptown Houston– When hubby and I want to take a quick staycation and we don’t want to travel outside of Houston we travel right down the road to our favorite hotel. HANDS DOWN The Post Oak Hotel in Uptown Houston is our FAVORITE for couples to getaway. This hotel screams luxury and relaxation. The pool is modern, sleek, and FUN! The rooms are drop dead GORGEOUS, the beds are comfy, and the spa is a 5 star! I have gotten one of my best massages from this spa. Also, my favorite seafood restaurant, Truluck’s Seafood, is about 2 minutes away and the Galleria is close for shopping. This is a good hotel for a get-a-way weekend for you and the spouse.
Hyatt Regency Lost Pines– If you are looking for a family friendly hotel then Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort is our TOP PICK! Our family has visited this resort more than 5 times. We make it a tradition to go annually. They have a schedule of activities for the kids, a huge pool, nice beds with big rooms, and great food near! My son’s look forward to the bike rides together here and my hubby loves their golf course. I just look for the spa! LOL! Did I mention that I LOVE the spa. Anytime that I can get away for a moment alone then I take FULL advantage of that. Add this hotel to your road trip list.
La Cantera Resort– My last, but not least, family favorite hotel is La Cantera Resort near San Antonio, TX. Let me first say that when you pull up to this resort it is secluded and the entry into the hotel it breath taking. Our kids could’t wait to run in an plop down on the big fluffy couches. La Cantera has daily kids activities. My family loves the beds and clean rooms. My boys asked to go to their homemade ice-cream shop daily. I must admit it was very yummy! There are fun museums and parks for the kids to visit while in San Antonio. We went to the Ripley’s Wax Museum and my boys thought it was the coolest ever. Lastly, i would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the massage that my husband and I received at this spa was THE BEST EVER! I will go back just for the massage. The restaurants have amazing food. We really enjoyed the Mexican restaurant near the pool. The boys loved swimming in the huge pool. This resort is a nice little getaway and gets two thumbs up!
Welp, now I am getting the GPS ready, making plans ,and packing our bags to prepare to check off our Summer staycation road trip list. Where are you headed this Summer?
